Studio DH Architecture was commissioned by park designer, Design Concepts to design the park structures for the new Utah Park in Aurora Colorado. The large regional park has long been a landmark for Aurora and is an integral part of the local neighborhood experience. Among other amenities, the park is home to the Utah Park Aquatics Center (also designed by Studio DH Architecture), children playgrounds, soccer venue, baseball/softball field, running/walking paths and a large pond which serves as a regional storm water retention area.
As part of a major re-configuring and re-design of the park, shade structures and restroom facility buildings were planned. Studio DH Architecture worked with the park designers, City Parks Department, and neighborhood groups to design structures that would add a distinct signature element to the park and provide shade and shelter for park users. The shade structure is situated adjacent to the relocated pond and is designed to allow for rising water levels common during large storms. The unique fan shaped structures opens to the western views of the mountains and overlooks the pond and expansive park.
